POA Circulars

This is a follow up to Motion 71/23 and this year’s Conference Paper 1/2024, which was passed and now needs to be actioned.

Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all POA members.

Following the Special Delegates Conference in March 1996, the Executive informed delegates that they would be seeking "two candidates" nominated by branches to attend the TUC Conference annually.

It is with great sadness we report to the membership the death of Honorary Life Member Terry Bond, who sadly died recently.

We have been contacted by Laura Wright, Trainee Forensic Psychologist who is conducting a study to explore experiences of prison officer grades who have been exposed to critical incidents at work, and to understand any risk or protective factors involved in the development of symptoms associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

As you are aware we were contacted by Anya Frude who is a Forensic Psychology doctoral researcher at the University of Birmingham. 

On 7th August 2024 at 15:00hrs the Retired Members Committee will meet at the Casa, Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BQ.

At Annual Conference 2024, Motion 42/2024 was carried.

At Annual Conference 2024 in Eastbourne the following Motion was carried.

Representing over 30,000 Prison, Correctional and Secure Psychiatric Workers, the POA is the largest UK Union in this sector, able to trace its roots back more than 100 years.
