Please find enclosed the process and timeline for the election of 1 post to the SNC. The vacancy is an interim post, which will run until May 2023.

We just want to take the opportunity to mark today, the 1st anniversary of when the whole country went into lockdown following the outbreak of COVID.

Following the issue of Circulars 01/21 02/21 & 05/21 relating to the election of Scottish National Committee Chair, I can confirm that John Cairney, having received support from the branches listed below, is the sole nominee for the post.

We wrote to you on 14th December 2020 with updates and we want to keep that theme going and we hope this latest update is helpful.

Please note in the Scotland section of the National Chairs update (issued today), where he accurately references the Scottish government pay policy position of 1% for this current year, it does not apply to the SPS staff.

Following the issue of Circular 01/21 notifying branches of the election to the post of Scottish National Committee Chair and seeking candidates for said position, I can confirm that John Cairney is the sole candidate for the post.

We refer to POA Branch Circular 002/2021 regarding the above.

We have managed to secure funding for an online Level 2 Gym instructors’ course through the STUC Union learning fund. It is clear the course is popular amongst our membership and highly likely that interest will exceed the capacity, which is for 12 learners.

The Scottish National Committee Chair post (currently Vacant) is due for election.  This will be a five-year post and the successful candidate will take up office in May 2021.  

Representing over 30,000 Prison, Correctional and Secure Psychiatric Workers, the POA is the largest UK Union in this sector, able to trace its roots back more than 100 years.
