Scotland

As of Monday, 25th May, the Scottish National Committee welcomed three new committee members, John Devine, Karen Ewen and Jim McCabe.

Following the appointment of Phil Fairlie to the post of Assistant General Secretary for Scotland, and his notice to all SPS sites earlier today: Please note that Mr Mick Grattan, currently the Vice Chair, will take up the post of Acting Chair of POA Scotland from Monday 20th April.

POA (Scotland) have for many years offered members valuable Life insurance cover. This has paid out several millions of pounds over the years to the families of members who have sadly prematurely lost their lives.

We just wanted to take this opportunity to pass on our thanks, firstly to your Scottish National Committee for the work they are doing on your behalf each day, and ultimately to you the membership for the incredible work you are all doing in dealing with the unprecedented circumstances being faced by everyone inside our Prisons.

A fond adieu from Andy Hogg, Assistant General Secretary (Scotland)

In respect of POA Circular 004/2020 dated 16th January 2020 as per the “Cuffe” report the process concluded with a report from the Independent Panel.

As per the Cuffe Report, which was accepted by Annual Conference 2019, I am advertising the above vacancy within the POA and externally through national and international advert as identified in the Cuffe Report.

Scottish Annual Conference of POA (Scotland) 2019 was held on 30th/31st October and hosted for the first time in Peebles Hydro Hotel. The conference saw delegates from the branches of the POA across Scotland taking part in debating motions on behalf of their branch membership and developing POA(S) policy going forward.

Following months of long and at times difficult and challenging negotiations the Scottish membership have overwhelmingly agreed to accept a three year pay deal worth a consolidated salary increase of at least 15% when compounded and much more for those still progressing through the pay-bands.

Representing over 30,000 Prison, Correctional and Secure Psychiatric Workers, the POA is the largest UK Union in this sector, able to trace its roots back more than 100 years.
