Towards the end of last week and in line with the new government restrictions that were announced, the SNC were approached by SPS for the resumption of visits in all sites as visit rooms are not deemed as a prisoners home.

Following the application of the pay deal in 2017/18 (the pay deal previous to the current 3 year deal) the POA raised an issue with SPS about a group of recently promoted FLM’s that we believed had been disadvantaged due to the movement of the pay date from October to April.

You will no doubt be aware of the latest communication in relation to the pension consultation, that comes in response to the McLeod judgement for discrimination on pension provision for some effected members.

Please find enclosed a press release which was issued yesterday on behalf of the POA in Scotland, and the Scottish Police Federation.

We have written to the SPS today raising some enquiries and concerns we have around various issues that have either been raised with us by you, or from information we have come to be aware of ourselves.

To bring to your attention at the National Coronavirus Response Group (NCRG) meeting on Monday 1st June, it was mentioned that SPS are still awaiting updated guidance in relation to those who are ‘shielding’.

As of Monday, 25th May, the Scottish National Committee welcomed three new committee members, John Devine, Karen Ewen and Jim McCabe.

Following the appointment of Phil Fairlie to the post of Assistant General Secretary for Scotland, and his notice to all SPS sites earlier today: Please note that Mr Mick Grattan, currently the Vice Chair, will take up the post of Acting Chair of POA Scotland from Monday 20th April.
