Circ/01/2026 was issued on the 28th of January 2026, inviting candidates for the post of SNC Chair. Following the closing date of 26th February 2026, we had received only one name seeking to stand for the post.

Following a full staff survey, various trials and talking to staff HMPPS have decided to move with the times and change the uniform.

The POA as one of the 18 Trade Unions representing NHS workers, strongly support NHS Leaders making flexible working the norm to deliver better patient care and help resolve the staffing crisis.

Prison Officers are demanding the same treatment as MPs when it comes to pay. 

It is with great sadness that I am writing to inform you of the passing of our Honorary Life Member and former SPOA General Secretary, John Renton on 24th February 2026 at the age of 92.

This takes place on Saturday 11 July 2026. The POA have had a presence at the Gala for many years.

POA Circular 10/2026 outlined how Trade Union Political Funds will operate in England, Wales and Scotland and that there would be no change in Northern Ireland.

Please find enclosed a Workshop that you are invited to attend free of charge which, has been arranged by the POA in conjunction with Dr. Joanne Forsyth who is a supporter of POA members and has conducted research into the wellbeing of Prison Officers.
