At the POA Annual Conference in Eastbourne 2022 delegates endorsed a Conference Paper titled TUC Anti-Racism Action Plan to ensure our own Rules and Constitution and staff handbook internally are very clear that Race Discrimination is an issue that will not be tolerated within our own union or respective workplaces.
Conference accepted that much work still needed to be done on a POA Anti-Racism Plan and that we continue to work with the TUC, and employers where our black and minority ethnic members work and indeed in wider society to eradicate the poison of racism in our trade union the POA, the wider trade union movement and society in general.
An enabling motion prior to the 31st January 2023 will be placed before the National Executive Committee and a final document will be produced for consideration by the Executive before being placed on the agenda to Annual Conference in May 2023.
This piece of work will be overseen by me as General Secretary and Angela Montgomery Assistant General Secretary will lead a small working group made up of black and minority ethnic POA branch officials and members. I am therefore seeking volunteers from the field to lead on this important piece of work that will set high standards within our trade union so that we can lead by example in the POA.
Please send in by Friday 16th December 2022 expressions of interest to nicola@poauk.org.uk if you are interested in assisting with this piece of work.
Yours Sincerely
STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
