CIRC 084: RAAC IN THE WORKPLACE

Following new concerns of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), the TUC are advising that an organising approach to support Branch Officials should be taken in order for them to ask the right questions of their employers and consider routes to escalation.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has warned that RAAC is now beyond its lifespan and may collapse with little or no notice. The Department for Education (DfE) has ordered schools to immediately shut buildings made with RAAC until safety work is undertaken. There have been several incidents of roof collapses involving RAAC in schools and other public buildings in recent years and there are now concerns that RAAC may be present in workplaces where our members work.

Are you a union rep who wants to understand what RAAC is and the risks associated with it?

Do you want to know how to identify, inspect and manage this potentially dangerous material?

If yes, join the TUC for a webinar on RAAC on Wednesday, 8th November 2023 from 1600 to 1700. In the webinar you will learn

  • what RAAC is and how to recognise it
  • what the main hazards and risks associated with RAAC are
  • how to report any defects or concerns
  • how to ensure the safety of your members in buildings with RAAC.
