SCOTLAND: RE POA SCOTLAND – CHARITY RAFFLE

We are delighted to tell you that the charity raffle organised for this year’s Scottish conference, raised a fantastic total of £3,585. Your kind generosity far exceeded our expectations.

All the funds raised will go to Dementia Scotland, who give support and understanding to dementia sufferers and their loved ones.  Your generous donation will be distributed across the various dementia support projects in Scotland.

This year we asked our delegates and guests to bring a food donation to give to the local foodbank in Peebles.  We are proud to say that the response was overwhelming, and we managed to donate over 350kgs of provisions to them. This year we were also able to contribute £1,000 donation kindly sanctioned by the General Secretary, Steve Gillan and the finance committee. The foodbank staff were absolutely delighted with the kind donations and have asked us to pass on their sincere thanks to all concerned.

The annual conference is an important point in our calendar where the main business of the POA is conducted on your behalf. But is also a great opportunity when we come together in one place, to show the best of us as a trade union and to benefit those less fortunate. It is a credit to all involved that we manage to do that so generously each year.

Once again, thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, donated raffle prizes, and brought items for the foobank collection,  contributing to two fantastic, very grateful causes.

Regards

On behalf of POA Scotland

PHIL FAIRLIE
Assistant General Secretary

Representing over 30,000 Prison, Correctional and Secure Psychiatric Workers, the POA is the largest UK Union in this sector, able to trace its roots back more than 100 years.
