H&S CIRC 003: LIFE EXPECTANCY OF PPE

1. Body armour 10 years.
2. Shields 5 years.
3. Helmets can vary depending on which model, but the current version is recommended at 7 years, however like any protective headwear (motorcycle helmets) if there is any significant impact it should be replaced.
4. FR overalls, there is no specific expiry date but recommendation that no more than 20 washes.
5. Arm/leg guards have no expiry due to composite material.
6. Boots, no expiry, just usual wear, and tear replacement.

Please ensure your Health & Safety Reps carry out regular checks on PPE within your establishment.

Yours sincerely
