SCOTLAND: RE SCOTTISH CONFERENCE 2025 – CHARITY FUNDRAISER

We have just returned from our annual conference last week in Peebles, and it was a very successful and interesting event, with an agenda of 106 motions to debate and form policy on. We will issue a fuller report on the conference in the near future.

BEATSON’S CANCER CHARITY

The purpose of this notice is to pay tribute to those of you who contributed in any way to the charitable events that we hold each year at our conference. The main charity event funds went to Beatson’s cancer charity, and the donation will go in the name of our past full-time officer and Honorary Life member, Andy Hogg, who very sadly passed away earlier this year. We paid our own tribute to Andy at the conference, and the donation is for £8739, which is an incredible sum from such a small conference.

We were also given a very sizable donation from the POA Welfare committee in commemoration of Andy, and we are incredibly grateful to them for that. The rest of the money comes from the delegates and guests at the conference, and you, the members donating the raffle prizes, and putting your £5 donations into the envelopes, and we could not be more grateful and delighted for your generous support.

PEEBLESSHIRE FOODBANK

The second donation we make each year is to the local foodbank, Peeblesshire Foodbank. This year, again due to the incredible generosity of those who attend the conference, and you the members who provided donations to the collection, we were able to donate a fantastic 400kilos of food and necessities, as well as a cheque for £1270, which came in cash donations during the conference, including £100 from the Retired Members Committee. For anyone on Facebook you will be able to see the donations, and the thanks from the foodbank volunteers, who could not have been more pleased to receive them, if you look up Peeblesshire Foodbank Facebook and Instagram page.

Thank you to each and every one of you who contributed and continue to demonstrate the fantastic generosity and values of us as a trade union membership.

Kind Regards
