CIRC 061: POA CIRCULAR 54/2026 -RETIRED MEMBERS COMMITTEE

Following promulgation of POA Circular 54/2026, Retired Members Committee, the NEC have determined that the closing date for applications should be extended until 31 August 2026.

The Rules and Constitution are clear that under Rule 5, we will have a retired members section and that qualification for retired membership is having been a full member until ceasing qualification for full membership under Rule 4.1.

Under Rule 5.1 (b) there should be a Retired Members Committee comprising;

i. Chairperson

ii. Vice Chairperson

iii. Secretary

iv. Up to two committee members

The Retired Members Committee under the Rules and Constitution do not have executive powers but can make recommendations to the NEC for their consideration.

Rule 5.1 (g) states “The NEC will determine from time to time the format and personnel of the Retired Members Committee”.

Vacancies have now arisen on the Retired Members Committee, and the NEC have decided to advertise for expressions of interest to be considered for several positions on the Committee.

We would welcome applicants from both male and female retired members.

Branches can nominate Retired Members and Retired Members can also apply directly to christina@poauk.org.uk by the 31 August 2026 for consideration.

Yours sincerely

STEVE GILLAN
General Secretary
